The UK’s Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) has today announced that it is working towards its strategy for the future.
The PSR is calling for feedback on what is most important for the future of payments before it consults on a full draft strategy later this year. Recognising the constraints and pressures imposed on firms by the coronavirus pandemic, the PSR will be using its digital channels to engage and gather views to feed into the consultation.
The PSR is breaking down its engagement into three key themes:
- Competition – what role does the PSR play to ensure competition is effective at all levels of the payments chain?
- Innovation and future payment methods – how can the PSR promote a choice of payment methods that suit the needs and preferences of people and businesses?
- Choice and availability of payment methods – how do we ensure that enough options are available to allow all people and businesses to make the payments they need and want to make?
In the coming months, the PSR will publish a specific set of questions on each theme alongside related content to stimulate thinking and debate. The PSR is encouraging industry to engage and contribute as much as possible by joining online events and roundtables, commenting on social media, and e-mailing the PSR directly with feedback.
